College Of Enrichment Studies
Integrated Learning
The work of the College of Enrichment Studies is based on an approach called "interdisciplinary learning," "interrelated learning," or "integrated learning".
Using history and culture as organizing principles, learners and instructors work together to identify and to examine links between disciplines and fields of study. In doing so, we have discovered that learners find the study of mathematics, science, literature, and history to be less fragmented and therefore more meaningful.
Our instructors and tutors work together with learners to choose projects and themes that deepen interest and broaden the range of learning opportunities. Inspired by classical conceptions of language-based learning, we move beyond textbooks to encourage learners to explore source materials. Using our student-centered instructional model, learners are encouraged to see how things fit together and develop strong critical and creative thinking skills.
Learners enrolled in our enrichment programme are not willing to sit back in passivity. They want to share in the exchange of knowledge, thus ensuring a continuing engagement in their own learning processes. By linking subject areas and by employing both formal and informal learning strategies, our instructors and tutors help provide meaningful learning experiences for learners of all ages.
