Classical Education
Classical education is a well-organized, systematic approach to learning that has produced some of the greatest thinkers throughout the Western historical tradition. It is a language-focused, historically-grounded approach to learning, where all knowledge is interrelated. In short, a text or subject is never studied in isolation.
Classical educators employ instructional models that encourage "interdisciplinary learning", "interrelated learning" or "integrated learning." Learners find the study of mathematics, science, literature, and social studies to be less fragmented and therefore less confusing when the links between subjects are brought out through historical connections.
Challenging the learner to think creatively and critically, classical educators frequently move beyond textbooks and encourage learners to explore source materials. As well, many instructors employ project-based instruction as a means to introduce a broader range of learning opportunities for the learner. This student-centered instructional model encourages learners to ask questions, make connections, and become active participants in their academic development.
Classical education is a systematic method of learning that encourages the learner to make fundamental connections between past and present events or between basic and more complex ideas. Using this method, learners play an active role in their education, which increases self-esteem and fosters an unquenchable thirst for learning. In practice, learners care more about their learning activities when they are able to see the connections between core subjects areas and their own interests.
Our consultants and instructors will use their experience as classical educators to develop a unique and personalized learning plan that meets the needs and relates to the interests of each client. |
